Kayak fishing, as its name suggests, is the art of fishing from a kayak. Kayak fishing is not a new activity, having been practised by Inuit people of the Arctic for generations. However, in recent years it has gained popularity as a fun way to engage in sport fishing in both fresh and saltwater.
Kayaks used for fishing are specially designed to accommodate all necessary fishing gear. These additions include rod holders, built-in coolers, GPS receivers, equipment mounts, live bait holders, and more. Pedal-powered kayaks are often preferred for kayak fishing as this leaves the hands free for fishing without the need to paddle with an oar.
The techniques used for fishing from a kayak are similar to those used for fishing from a larger boat, you may choose to cast off from a seated position or while standing. Many fishing kayaks have wide beams to increase lateral stability and decrease the risk of overturning.
